I promised some people this story was going to be posted soon, so here it is. It's another quick one but it's just as funny... at least for me.
I was walking up to the Marta station and was, as usual, approached by an individual who we will call "Bob." Bob looked like he was a little drunk and sure enough began asking for some money (or so I thought...)
Bob says: 'scuse me sah, do you have... change for 95 cents?
Me: Sorry?
Bob: ...change for 95 cents?
Me: ...ahhh... [pause]... No... I'm sorry...
Now, I'm no professional cashier but I've had my turn behind the till and if my memory serves me correctly, I believe that a minimum of 5 coins are required to break 95 cents (i.e. 3 quarters and 2 dimes - assuming no 50 cent pieces).
Assuming Bob actually had 95 cents, I would need... what? - 5 nickels to break one of his quarters!? Rarely does a cashier give back 5 nickels in change for ANY cash purchase (unless they are out of quarters AND dimes) and therefore even more rarely would I have 5 nickels in my pocket considering I hardly ever carry cash (for reasons which may be obvious to you).
But maybe I'm being ridiculous. Maybe some people get nervous carrying "large bills"... I mean... "large coins" around with them in public...
